About MeI was born in MN and that is where my husband, Scott and I met. We married in 2007 and have two beautiful girls. I attended St. Ambrose University where I got my degree in Elementary Education. I started my teaching career at Mark Twain Elementary School in Bettendorf, IA as a 4th grade teacher. After 6 years, I received my masters in Instructional Design & Technology from Western Illinois University and made my switch to Teacher Librarian at Mark Twain. I spent three more years there, and then made my move to our district's high school as their Teacher Librarian the fall of 2015.

Why the Library? |
Believe it or not, I have not always been a reader, honestly, most people would probably still not call me a reader. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy books, but I read to obtain information, to be creative, to empower others, and to advance my skill-sets. I am a life-long learner! Libraries today do not have your typical "shh, this is a library" environment anymore. Today, they are gathering places that foster collaboration, creativity, individualized learning, and a location to access multimedia resources...as well as books :-) I want to be a part of this type of environment, a place where "magic" happens, and the ability to say, "I was a part of that!"

Why a Makerspace? |
A makerspace is a place where young people have an opportunity to explore their own interests; learn to use tools and materials, both physical and virtual; and develop creative projects. It is a space that is driven by student interest and creative goals. With the higher mandates of students reaching certain standards, the time to be creative and explore has somehow escaped education. Makerspaces bring this necessary skill back into our schools. With places like these available, students gain exposure to possible opportunities they could pursue in their future, but would have never known otherwise.
